This thoughtful communion set has everything a pastor or representative needs to offer sacred communion around town. Set the table for the feast! The extra minute or two that is needed to set the table allows the one you are visiting to see the ritual unfold, and feels the care that you have taken. This “setting the scene” shows that we have time for each person we visit.
As a hospice chaplain and pastor, I have developed these sets to make our ministry about the people and the ritual, instead of fussing with the “how-to” details. I have put all that is needed for a home, hospital, or nursing home visit into this set! This set is best for one- or two-person-at-a-time visit (for a larger set that includes individual cups, please see my Small Group Communion Set).
A complete portable communion kit:
Handthrown and decorated ceramic communion chalice )approx. 3 1/2 inches tall). And paten (approx 2 1/4 inches dial.) These can be sanitized in the dishwasher when needed. Walnut box (made in USA), custom made to fit the set, with hard foam on the inside bottom of the box, which is carved to hold the set. Soft foam lines the lid to cushion the ceramics for travel.Small plastic bag for bread or wafers and glass wine bottle with spill proof cap (Glass is cleanable, and unlike the plastic ones you have used, glass will not stain over time). The glass bottle is dishwasher safe. If you do find a discoloration after many uses, swish a few grains of uncooked rice with a little water around in the bottle. Then scrub it clean! Hand wash the plastic lid.Cloth mat (approx. 10 inches x 7 inches) to set the table for your chalice and paten. The bottom side is “oilcloth” cleanable by wiping with soap and water or sanitizer and the top side is a woolblend felt which is washable.An optional carrying bag with cleanable “oilcloth” bottom on the outside (nice for setting your bag down in a hospital or nursing home) large enough to include the set as well as your Bible, extra bread loaf, calling cards (see my All Occasion Cards), and anything you need when you visit. This bag is custom made with my butterfly logo by EcoBags, which certifies that the bags are recycled cotton, made “fair wage, fair labor” and their saying is that they are “cleaning up the planet one bag at a time.” We support their efforts! I sew the “oilcloth” (vinyl) on the bottom. Note that the pattern on the oilcloth will vary from what is pictured.This set is the Natural Clay Cross design (other designs are available in my shop). This cross is drawn with my finger through the wet glaze to show the natural color of the clay. It is as if each piece is individually anointed! Drawn with a finger, the cross, which is a strong symbol of the power and love of God, takes on human warmth and presence. The Natural Clay Cross design reflects the humanity and divinity of Jesus Christ in a simple form.
